Attributes & Artifacts

  • Culturally Responsive.

This writing sample demonstrates my knowledge and skills when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

After reviewing a hypothetical case study featuring Tahnee - an Indigenous Australian woman exhibiting symptoms of depression - I wrote about the dominant evidence-based treatment, the appropriate culturally informed model, and responsible clinical interventions.

As an aspiring clinician, it has been invaluable to learn how to work with Indigenous Australians in a culturally responsive and safe way.

  • Psychologically Literate.

Psychology is a scientific discipline, and this research report excerpt demonstrates my ability to accurately analyse, critique and communicate theory and research in psychology.

I reported experimental findings after being presented with data about a hypothetical study on the effects of flotation tanks on stress levels.

I also have the ability to analyse data using statistical tests and software, and to interpret results. I was motivated to gain these skills by my desire to become a scientist practitioner.

  • Technologically Literate.

This podcast / brief audio essay demonstrates my technological literacy. I interviewed Hayes, an older adult, about portrayals of older adults in the media.

The recording is also an example of my psychological literacy, as it demonstrates my ability to apply psychological science to understand and address individual and societal issues, specifically ageism and aging.

Thank you Hayes for agreeing to the interview and for being so insightful!

  • Lifelong Learner.

Learning is one of my values, and when I’m passionate about a subject, I like to learn as much as possible about it.

I have complimented my formal studies by reading books about schema therapy, psychoanalysis, cognitive psychology, flow states and creativity

My research interests are the social and applied psychology of music and I am a volunteer research assistant in Dr Amanda Krause's Researching Everyday Music Listening Lab. I am excited that Amanda will be my supervisor at James Cook University in 2025.

You can participate in Amanda's research here.

  • Global Citizen.

In Promoting Positive Change I critically reflected on the impact of my sociocultural context on my environmental practices.

I wrote about being an Australian Greens voter, which was influenced by growing up in Tasmania. The world’s first Green party was established in Tasmania in 1972, and the Tasmanian Greens had a prominent political presence in my hometown of Launceston.

Promoting Positive Change demonstrates my ability to integrate personal reflection and psychological research, and an understanding of how psychological science can foster positive societal outcomes.
