25 Minute Piano Cycle: The Tree of Life

Tree of Life image larger.jpg

I spent the first half of 2020 writing The Tree of Life, a 6-movement piano cycle commissioned by Daniel Johnson. The work is a collection of ‘musical journal entries’ spanning February to June 2020.

1. Departure
2-3. Omen - Elegy
4-5. Diversion - Rain
6. Talisman

The titles of the movements are deliberately ‘symbolic’, or even ‘archtypal’. I’ve avoided explicitly stating the ‘stories’ behind the movements, in the hopes that the listener will graft their own feelings and experiences onto the music. A discarded subtitle for the work was The Book of Symbols. Read more here.
